Unsurprisingly my accountant disagrees with my property buying plans.

Need to come up with a birthday present for my nearly-four-year old niece - something suitably innocent yet corrupting. She's not reading yet so I'm thinking mostly-picture book.

One-shotted a PC last night - the 4-STR character should not be at the front of party when entering an unknown tower - which turns out to be inhabited by shadows. 1d6 STR damage and one round later the remainder of the party is facing shadows +1. (They ran away. Very fast).

I'm lacking a) money on my phone & b) strategic contact details for people.

I have achieved SFA since about 5pm.

Ain't that right

Too big for the both of us

Sunday

Some pruning is done with a spade. Also - going to have to borrow the truck again soon. Two more sections of garden to go.

Saw two Priuses at the supermarket - one about the same age as mine (notable only because most are slightly later) and one which I at first took for a Honda because of the shape. Turned out to be a '98, 2nd-hand Jap import. Apparently the only issue is that the dash is is Japanese so when a warning light comes on you can't tell what it's for. That and the gps thinks it's in Tokyo.

Nearly TPKed twice at gaming - I've never had am ambush go off that well. Also my dice were hot all night. Managed to inflict some roleplaying on the party when they arrived back at the village and discovered the surviving (fled) bandit relating his tale of woe in the tavern. They managed to avoid either a lynching or a slaughter, then went and got beaten up by an ogre.

Monday

Work was bitsy - trying to do two or three things at once. Popped home at lunchtime to hand over Gma's mobility scooter (which has been sitting in my garage since she moved out of her villa) to a company who might be able to figure out why it randomly stopped working when I charged the batteries (which are now dead).

*may be subjective

Classless game ran well on Sunday I thought. Only ended up killing one PC out of a likely TPK due, ironically, to a failed save on the last standing PC's part. I used two spells I have never before used as a DM - Death Knell and Charm Person (the latter in combat even).

The former is a spell that it alway seems unfair or mean to use, as it tends to kill outright a PC who might otherwise stabilise in what could be seen as a deliberate action on the part of the DM (much like coup-de-gras on a PC - it's not usually good for the game). The latter is just really hard to apply in game unless you have the right players for it. Both can take away some feeling of control over your own character.

The party ended up leaving with most of the complex unexplored, so I shall have to come up with something else for next session. CF forces a break, so I have a couple of weeks.

Moved offices at work. Now sharing with the boss, new team members sharing the office where I was. The new setup is a little more cramped as they couldn't make the (very well designed) desk I was using fit in the new space. However it does lend itself to focusing on work for longer stretches rather than checking LJ/email/Facebook/Gchat every 20 minutes.

Mother is out of hospital, cyst analysis came back negative for cancer, hopefully she can now take it easy and recover.

Visited Grandma today, who is failing, a long, slow, slide.

Character gen for the classless game last night. Everyone opted for the 4d6 method, resulting in the highest character being +6 (and I allowed a couple of the others to boost a bit to +4).

So we have:
- An ex-slave woman half-orc STR 20 CHA 3? mobilty fighter based on a build from OOTS
- A male half-orc ex-necromantic acolyte undead hunter
- dwarf fighter, heavy drinker
- half-elf cleric/bard/rogue mismash, STR 4. Seeker after knowledge?

The highest CHA in the party is about 10. I think there are two INTs with -ve modifiers. Stealth is pretty much going to be a foreign concept, even though most are lightly armored.

Some notes:

Those trade-offs over what you are good at can be really hard. HP seemed to be the most commonly sacrificed. Base attack is equal to a level of spellcaster because it is a prerequisite to most of the combat related feats - like rage, favoured enemy ...
Even with 6 'feats' at first level - it's not enough :D Hard decisions have to be made about what can wait for 2nd/3rd level.

Feh.

Don't ever let anyone tell you that setting up a RPG isn't hard work.

Still, first wave of the ability conversions added to the classless webpage for those who are following.

Break time.

I've been taking to the class system and a few other bits in D&D3 with a chainsaw and wand of polymorph, and would like to run a playtest campaign in the new year.I will be converting adventures from the many supplements and old issues of Dragon/Dungeon magazine which I own.

The designated timeslot is Sunday evening, 6:30 - 10ish. I'd like to get started before the end of January, and need 3-5 additional players.

X-posted just a little - I almost feel like a spammer.

Feedback on the site design welcomed as well :)
