So, I have my computer back. Nothing serious, loose plug somewhere that I didn't find. The tech isn't sure which one it was either :) it just started working for him after he'd done a complete replug.
He tested my new RAM and confirmed the stick was faulty, so I took it back and got a replacement. That seems to be working fine.
I am now busy catching up on everything I missed over the week that I do from home but not work :)
