and isn't a substitute for anything, honest.
Upgraded all the core hardware except the hard-drives. New motherboard, 3800 MHz chip, 1G RAM, GeForce 7300 videocard
Relying on onboard sound because the motherboard only has two regular PCI slots and the fan on the video card overhangs one of them. TV card is in the other and none spare. Not particularly happy about that - may upgrade motherboard again. Bad design engineers - bad!
The case is ****ing huge. Tower, so I've reclaimed some desktop real-estate, but longer than I expected. I think I'll have to re-arrange the landscape a bit.
The whirr is at a different pitch to what I am used to, it may take a little time to aclimatise.
The cd with the motherboard drivers had a bend in it and was unusable - fortunately Windows coped until I was able to download them. I was a little nervous about swapping systems under an XP install :D
I'll give the system a proper workout tomorrow, but I can already feel the difference. Now, what to do with my old box?
[Edit: and something inside periodically sounds like a constipated duck. I hope it's a fan and not one of the hard-drives. 'Cos it sounds like it's coming from about there, but it could just be where the sound is escaping the case.]
