Day one. What does it say that the introductory workbook has acquired numerous pencil scribbles in the margins where I found instructions out of date relative to what was presented on the screen and/or poorly presented figures/screenshots.

If you're going to update your intranet with a new look, fgs update the tutorials that refer to particular icons/menu systems etc.

After orientation I got most of the way through the first workbook. Tomorrow I will clear it and I expect the next one as well. After that the serious work begins.

Tomorrow I also get my student ID, so I'll actually be able to swipe in.

The cycling wasn't too bad - minimal pain, half an hour each way with a head wind. Goal: shave 10 minutes off that time. Tomorrow morning will tell how how my legs really coped. Discovered that my brake pads had perished and practically evaporated over the last week - fortunately had time to visit a cycle shop and buy new ones which I shall put on this evening.

There was an 80-question yes/no learning style analysis included. I scored:

Initiator - 2%ile
Reasoner - 39%ile
Analyst - 80%ile
Implementer - 39%ile

Of course, I had the usual issues with possible interpretations of a number of the questions, and some of the conclusions drawn and "advice on developing the less optimal learning styles" get my hackles up. They betray some of the underlying biases of whoever put the test together. (Apparently not voting in a national election indicates that collective responsibility has not been learnt and I should understand why it is important to vote and then do so).

Most everything recommends more impulsive actions and spontaneity (big surprise - not). Fat chance.

Congrats. I start my new job in a few hours. Sadly it's too far away and too cold (8* fahrenheit-- that's like, -23480c) to bike.
