If I have been a bit quiet on here recently it has been because life has not been letting up, over and above my tendency to overcommit. So here are few things from the past little while.
~~~
On the 30th of July I adopted a 6-yo black tail-less Manx cat from Cat Rescue. She (Gytha Ogg) was briefly adopted by another friend first but it was decided it wasn't going to work and it seemed to much of a shame for her to not too have a home after all. Her tail-stump threshes like a little propeller when she is excited and this evening she has demonstrated extreme amounts of but wiggle while randomly pouncing at things.
Gytha is a very snuggly, affectionate and affection-hungry cat who has settled in nicely over the past few weeks. She particularly likes burrowing into the duvet or blankets to sleep - whether or not there is a person present. Gytha is very nervous around walking people and prefers to meet them on her own terms, but has little hesitation if they are closer to her height. We hosted a party a week and a half after getting her - although mostly confined to my room she had visitors for most of the evening.
I was quite unwell for said party (see ealier post) and spent most of t hiding in the computer room wearing a flu mask.
Despite the alarm I managed to be at the Hall not-to-much after 9am on Saturday to let some film students in, but left them to it to get through some things around the house and garden.
- cleaning the car
- filling the green bin
- extreme pruning of one of the hedges
- cleaning out the lean-to
- chopping some firewood
- digging and re-planting some bulbs
- other stuff I'm probably forgetting
Around which I somehow managed to play quite a bit of Civ and generally felt quite relaxed for the party that evening - the Annual KAOS Slave auction where my purchases for the evening were one lot I had planned on bidding on and another which I did not expect to get at the price I was bidding. 9had this not taken out my budget there was another unexpected lot later on that I would have liked to have gone higher on.) The prices this year were far more sensible than they have been in previous years, but the auction also dragged on quite a bit with people generally seeming reluctant to or disinterested in bidding.
This past weekend I dialled 111 3 times and was on the phone to a 111 operator 4 times in total. 2am Saturday morning was a Hall alarm where 10-12 youths were running off as I arrived; unfortunately the police were unable to catch up with any of them. Sunday morning I'm just going to c/p here from FB:
---
Short version - I have been on the phone to the trifecta of 111 services within the past hour.
Long version:
3am-ish dropping Dust home from the party (the last of my passengers for the night) we see a man lying on the road (parking lane) near his place. It is literally freezing temperatures outside; the ice is building up on nearby cars. He mostly seems to drunk and drifting in and out of sleep / consciousness so we called Ambulance (Dust placed the call but I later took the phone while he went to get a blanket). Ambulance response vehicle arrived fairly quickly and roused the guy who was having trouble remembering where he lived but thought it was Elizabeth Street (we were just off the far end of Ilam.) Eventually the guy just sort of staggered off (in the wrong direction) obviously he was just going to fall down again somewhere else but the ambulance person said he'd get the police to pick him up and take him home.
Between there and home for me - passing Ray Blank park (Maidstone road) someone has set something alight in the park. U-turn and call it in to the fire brigade, get a hi-vis vest on and walk over to take a closer look. (A chair of some sort - guess the students can't afford couches any more.)
Something hit the ground near me as I moved away from the car - I assumed it had fallen from a tree. Until as I was standing by the fire (hey, warm) things ~tennis ball size started bouncing off / around the car. Could hear muffled giggling from across the road somewhere - called this in to the police. Was on the line to this operator while the fire service arrived and extinguished the fire, during which I went back to check on my car and discovered ... potato smashed across the bonnet and on the road around. Someone had been firing a spud cannon at me / my car / possibly other passing vehicles as well. [No obvious dents, but I washed the car just this morning!
Unfortunately there didn't seem to be any police vehicles available to respond by the time the fire was cleaned up, and it turns out that one of the "driveways" diagonally across the road in the direction the projectiles were coming from is actually a walkway through to a cul-de-sac. So whoever it was had probably already legged it
It's now 4am and I have to be at #AHChch at 10am - not much sleep for me tonight. — feeling tired.
---
This was followed by other Hall-related information coming to light on Sunday which has required me to put on my best frown-up pants and email a local school about the behaviour of their students. All the good feels I had on Saturday are well gone.
