Actually things went pretty well. It was just the last day that went off the rails a little. It was however very non-stop and quite exhausting.

Friday

Departed Christchurch more or less on time, running a little late. Light traffic, smooth journey, a little hairy going over the hills into Dunedin. I had two passengers, two back seats down and tetrised into the cargo space a loom for U and a fireguard for D, all of which were delivered safely by the end of the day.

In return for the fireguard I unexpectedly received two bottles of homebrew cider. I think one was described as an apple wine ad the other as a "wild" cider. Probably I will make them available to appropriate people next time there is an event here. It had a rather rough ride back from Dunedin though.... more on that later.

There was an evening outing to a bar in the Octagon, I showed but left relatively early on account of the noise. Instead I paid a brief surprise visit to J, having realised her work is half a block from my regular motel. Speaking of motels, someone had again put a rugby match on the same weekend as a KAOS event and I was only able to get a room for the Friday night (although it was at least one of the of the "dungeon" rooms as I call them due to the particulars of the layout). A had kindly offered crash space at her & T's place, although she was actually out of town, and I took that up for the next night.

Saturday

Checked out out of motel and relocated my gear to A & T's place, which turned out to be just up the Hill. Picked up K for brunch (Capers) and chat, then turned up to the battle site.

The battle itself was not large - only about 8 a side evenly matched Christchurch and Dunedin forces but they made up for that with enthusiasm. Special mention to the Healing Fairy. Anyway there will be photos of that. It was getting chilly by the end and we relocated to a local cafe/entertainment centre for afters. I managed to get the slideshow done while there.

Picked up T from a local board-game group, engulfed dinner, refreshed and turned up to party. It was a cosy affair, well attended by due to space constraints more a large drinkies. There will be photos of that as well. Pumpkined shortly after midnight anyway, but didn't sleep well. (No reflection on the accommodations.)

Sunday

Took leave of T, and picked up M & W for late brunch. finished that up about 1, and while sorting out where my passengers were heard back from H whom I had so far failed to get hold of. Already running late I nevertheless dropped in for 20 minutes for a hug and surprise plum jam. :)

The trip north was very pleasantly light on traffic but not without incident. We had to detour inland around a significant accident on the main road (car now badly needs a wash) and by the time I was trying to find N & N's place it was dark. The led to going straight ahead at an intersection where I should have zagged and eventually we wound up sitting at a dot on the map while N came to find us and lead us to their place. what had been meant to be an afternoon-tea visit became dinner, and then we finally got back on the road to Christchurch (plus return cargo, which was the catalysing driver for visiting in the first place).

Arrived back about 8pm without further incident, caught up on some stuff online, had a shower and went to bed with a hottie (hot water bottle although I would dearly have liked the other sort to be waiting for me).
