In my previous fixed employment as a research tech with a scientific organisation female techs were paid significantly less than males (and I suspect this went all the way to the scientist level). I know most every female tech there worked harder and did more for the company than I did - some in particular - despite this I was paid more. I had a problem with this state of affairs and said so to a number of people including (female) HR but was unable to change things. One of many dis-illusionments.
