The Swiftpoint Mouse
- Designed and made by a Christchurch company which has survived the quake
- something I saw reviewed some time ago and thought "I'd like to try one of those"
- serendipitously reminded by a mention from Russell Brown at the end of this weeks Media 7
- sorry lefties, it's handed :( (they justify this by saying "research showed us that a majority of left-handed people use a mouse in their right-hand." Don't know how true that is.)

In my case it's bollocks. And I wouldn't be surprised if the whole "handed mouse" thing is the reason a lot of lefties use a mouse right-handed.

Pity, that. They look interesting.

That's my suspicion as well :-/

They do say "However, should demand be great enough for a left-handed mouse, it is certainly something we will consider for the future." - perhaps you should drop them an email?

I'm a left hander that uses a mouse right handed - mostly so I can eat, drink and write while I'm at my computer. I'm surprised they didn't make it so that mice should be used with the left hand anyway - I'm sure it's easier to have it in your off hand.

Not just easier in general but easier on your joints and likely to help stave off OOS. For srs. A lot of doctors/occ health nurses etc advise mousing with the non-dominant hand.

I switched to mousing with my left hand at my PC because of OOS/RSI issues.

I leave the buttons set for a right-handed mouse though, which confuses the heck out of people :D

let me know how that works out for you - I could be quite interested in purchasing one myself.

That looks nifty, and if it's at all good, much less annoying than my wireless. Like the idea of supporting a local too (how muchie?). Let me know if it sucks :)

They call it $99 on the website (incl. GST) but it's actually $99.75 + $5 shipping.

I'll certainly be posting a review of it at some point.

Left handed mouse use

Date: 2011-03-20 04:04 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] slayerwitchnz.livejournal.com
I'm left-handed and I use the mouse in my right hand because when I learnt to use computers as a child, the mice were always at the right of the keyboard.

It was many years before it even occurred to me or was pointed out to me that other left-handed people may do otherwise.

Knowing it now doesn't change anything because I am SO used to using the mouse in my right hand. I feel that from two decades of experience, I am better using a right-handed mouse than any benefit using my dominant hand could possibly provide.
