So I didn't manage to get vanilla CivII working :(, but the Civ II: Test of Time CD I'd forgotten about installed and is running just fine (but sans video).
I'm not as enamored of ToT, The 3D animated units are cool & all but a lot harder to tell apart. They also tend to 'float' one higher above the square they're sitting in, which leads to moving them in the wrong direction a lot. Also it was obviously never designed to run on a screen this size/resolution.
Nevertheless it kept me occupied from shortly after my last post to about 2:30 am, and I'm sure I'll be back to it shortly at the expense of things I ought to be doing :-/ I am a very groggy Marsden at the present time.
