The critical flaw in the "technology will mean we have to work less" predictions which have been with use since at least the early 20th century is an unwritten assumption that employers will be happy to pay an equivalent amount of people an equivalent amount of money for less time spent at work.
In practice this requires everybody people shifting to better paying jobs with fewer hours - and a serious culture change around the whole concept of employment.
