OK, so the first session in this installment was 3 weeks ago and I may be a little fuzzy on the details. We also missed a week in the middle due to player absence.
Previous Session
[Sophi's player away]
The party returns to Fenthick and Oleff, where Robilar's strength is restored. Access to the library has been arranged, so it is decided that Sophi will spend some time there researching Yuan-ti (deemed the most likely of the escaped creatures to be in the area) while the others make an expedition to retrieve the remaining chests of potential loot from the warehouse and exchange it for something more useful.
The return party is drawn off their regular patth to the warehouse and deeper into the Beggars Nest by a woman's screams, where they find a teen girl and two younger children cornered in a alleyway by zombies. These zombies are quickly engaged, but the screams have also drawn other undead who rush the PCs on the main street from both sides.
Fighting off the undead the PCs escort the three to the Shining Serpent, where they were attempting to reach safety, their parents having just recently succumbed to the plague.
Chests retrieved without further incident the PCs visit several of the merchants who still have stores or have taken refugein the City Core. There is some disagreement over who should take responsibility for getting the best prices, and then again what shoudl be done with individual shares of the loot. This is most characterised by the argument between Syvaldor and Cora. Syvaldor insists that all should be put toward purchasing something useful for the party, including any individual funds that othe individuals might already hold, while Cora is willing to consider putting some of her share into a pool for an item but wants to have possession of her share first and decide how much of it to contribute. She takes great offence at Syvaldor trying to find out how much money she may already possess.
The other PCs fall between these two extremes of opinion. In the end the proceed are divvied out evenly, but the bulk of each person's share goes back towards purchase of a Wand of Cure Light Wounds.
Thus equipped and prepared the party returns to face the underground, on the way pausing at the Shining Serpent to give relatively valuable gifts to the three people they rescued. The shadows are turned quickly but not immediately, and Selvanus is slightly weakened in the interval. Continuing along the tunnel the part finds a room contining a heavy iron door, a lever in the wall, and one zombie which does not move to attack. After a few moments hesitation it is destroyed anyway, and then some examination of the lever occurs before it is pushed up, unlocking the door. Opening the door the PCs face two armoured figures, which do raise their battleaxes to attack.
[session end]
[Selvanus' player away]
The armoured figures are taken down with only a little damage to the PCs. On closer investigation the bodies inside appear to have been killed in some painful ritual fashion, and wear what could be the tattered remains of gang colours.
Two passages lead out of the room. Eshkan examines the area and determines that someone or ones passes between them regularly, but also that somone more recently came from and returned to the leftmost, after apparently standing around in the chamber for a while. This is the passage the PCs follow, until they come to a pair of doors in the left wall. Robilar is able to detect weak sources of evil from behind both.
Opening a door at random the reveals a disused torture chamber, with an unusually large snake coiled in the center. Rather than attack Eshkan attempts to calm it using his Ranger abilities, and it seems content just to observe the PCs. Beyond another heavily bolted door is a stronger evil source.
Before investigating further Sophi magic-missiles the snake, which attacks the nearest creature in that direction (Robilar) before being slain.
Opening the door the PCs meet a dark-haired and somewhat excitable man, Alex, who is apparently waiting (unwillingly) to be sacrificed by the 'snake woman'. After some intimidation he admits to being a cleric of Cyric, God of lies, and attempts to bargain the PCs into letting him go in exchange for information on the location of the Yuan Ti. They get some information then lock him back in the chamber, planning to turn him over to the authorities later.
The other door leads to a room of zombies which are turned and cower in a corner until hacked to death.
Further along the corridor is a locked door, which Cora is able to pick open. Inside is a well-furnished room which the groups sets to searching. Cora fails to find a trap on a locked chest before opening it, and is badly slashed by a blade as a result. The chest contains some potions marked with the signs of various good-aligned deities and a bag of gems. Sophi finds a couple of fine gowns in a wardrobe, and Robilar and Syvaldor vigorously destroy a holy book of Cyric. Eshkan notices a sheet of paper on the desk which is writen in a different hand and language to the rest of the material there, it may be some not-immediately-identifiable dialect of Draconic.
Following the rather broad directions given by Alex the party finds themselves in front of a largish door with a strong source of evil on the far side. They pause to cast preparative spells then enter to be set upon by several zombies and ghouls. A woman atop one of two raised pyramids in the room assaults them with divine spells. The zombies are turned and the ghouls struck down - only to get up again seconds later, flanking Robilar and tearing into him.
Battered by arrows from Eshkan and magic missiles from Sophi the woman catches Eshkan with a Hold Person and then ducks out of sight behind the pyramid. Sylvanus moves around to where he can see her and shoots with his bow - she moves out and engages him in melee, immediately demonstrating exceptional skill with her blade.
