Good 'fer

Sunny days and regular invoices from just enough work coming in to keep on top of, these things are good for the mood.

Add to that
- stepping towards long held goals (HRV system)
- (almost) keeping on top of the chores / gardening / making headway on the overall cleanup of the place. (Waterblasting down the shady side of the house is making a huge difference - but it's slow going due to the decades of moss which has taken firm root and requires repeated application.)
- Gaming was excellent this week as well, even if I did have to press-gang the rest of the group into playing muggers when three of the PCs insisted on getting drunk and flashing gold and talking about treasure in the part of town they really shouldn't have. OTOH they've also managed to make a few enemies and ... attract the attention of enough factions to keep future visits to town interesting for the entire party [plots] }:->

It got to the point yesterday evening where I was not only planning to have a good weekend, I was chipper enough to probably make it happen. I was also discovering how unaccustomed I have become to giving a genuinely happy response when asked how I'm doing.

Unfortunately the edge was taken off my chipperness shortly before I left the otherwise pleasant drinkies last night, which pushed my brain into a night-time funk from which I haven't quite made it back to the same level.

So, back to making lists. One for the entire weekend

- finish off waterblasting the east path
- wash the dishes
- write up javascript/JSON form re-pop script in my technical blog
- write up the great beetle battle (what I can remember of it now) in Armexis log
- print my character for [livejournal.com profile] codym's new Tuesday game and write up some personality.
- followup from last session & prep for Kobold Keep (@spacecraft)
- get RSS back into single digits

First, watch the theme song to this entry.

All beetle antics were the responsibility of players other than the two whose characters were were present. Beetles had a selection of random bonus feats, some of which proved more useful than others.

As previously mentioned Perry and Azarel set out to explore a smaller passage, a breach in the wall of the giant's tomb. It descended to a natural cavern, lined with fungi and amongst which moved several large beetle-like shapes. Impatient to continue Azarel cut loose with a fireball consisting mostly of shadow but real enough to deal with the vermin before them leaving a swathe of roasted beetle bodies - and enraging every other beetle in the area. The fight was on!

The first few beetles which had been spared the fireball dropped from the ceiling and rushed the narrow passage, where Azarel was able to fend them off. One or two, distracted by the opportunity for a hot meal that wasn't fungi and wasn't likely to impale them, set upon the corpses of their companions instead.

Perry summoned an arrowhawk to aid in the battle. It appeared hovering in the middle of the cavern and fried one beetle with a bolt of lightning before another dropped on it, clinging and biting furiously. This combat veered off around the cavern.

Pressing through the thinning ranks of beetles on the ground and dodging those continuing to 'beetle bomb' them from the roof Perry and Azarel made for the exit to the cavern, to be met by a second wave of beetles from an adjoining passage. By this stage even Rolly (the druid's overweight rodent companion) was involved, finding the beetles not a bad match for his size.

In the air the beetle was getting the worst of it's tussle with the arrowhawk and decided to find a softer target. As the pair passed the ground combat it launched itself at the most prominent target (Azarel, the gnome for once the tallest present) sailing gloriously through the air and splatting into the cavern wall.

This pretty much ended the battle as the beetle population was reduced to those too cowardly, too lazy or too well fed to be bothered with the intruders. Having used several mid-level spells in the combat however the two scouts opted to continue their exploration under a combination of stealth spells, returning to report finding
- several caves
- a couple of large red-hued lizards which may or may not have been dragons
- a passage with a fire-giant guard possibly leading up towards our current level of the stronghold
- a cavern containing a gorgon!

Campaign blurb:
Revenants
You awaken to darkness.

You are trapped within a fleshy cocoon filled a foul viscous liquid, naked but not alone. You sense others near you, similarly trapped. They also stir. You have no memory of how you ended up here. Your last memories are of a great battle, a mighty clash between the armies of light and darkness.

A battle in which you died…

Revenants is a D&D3.5 Campaign beginning at 3rd Level that will be a mix adventure and intrigue as the players make their way in the world and try to discover what happened to them in the fateful battle.

Kiera Elsienna
- Acolyte of the Masked Lady (Guardian of the Soul Gates, Queen of the Silver City)

Where am I? Let me think...

First I remember the teachings and duties of the Church. These are ever a part of me.

I remember a battle - a large battle, many of my brothers and sisters in the faith would have been there to see to the consecration of the dead - on both sides, for such is our way. Our Goddess rules the Silver City on the Astral plane. Therein stand the gates to the outer planes that the souls of the dead - all the dead - eventually must pass through on the way to their dues in the outer planes.

Some choose not to pass through, these souls populate the city or serve Her as messengers for the chance to return to this plane, if only for a short time.

So there was a battle, 'good' races against 'evil', humans, elves and dwarves following a King versus orcs, goblins and others commanded by a Dragon. Yes, I was there. There was a battle and I died. Someone hit me with an axe?

I must have travelled to the Silver City then, but I am not dead now? Where am I? It is wet, dark, constraining. There are others nearby. This is not any ritual of Raising or Resurrection of which I have been taught. But the loss of memory, especially of the time between, that is to be expected. That is normal.

She must have reason for releasing me back to this body, which would be reason enough to return willingly. I shall follow the paths laid out in the faith, observe, learn, honor and prepare the dead, do not take sides and it time my purpose shall surely be revealed. Or not, for all carry their knowledge with them to the Silver City and it's Queen is also the Queen of Secrets.

Firstly: who else is here?
