I bought the drive with the chip drives. It's more immediately useful. With the front-facing USB port it might even be worth my picking up a pendrive sometime soon.

I went to plug it into the front-usb section on the motherboard. Wouldn't go. On closer examination the two plugs were mirror images of each other.

On closer examination of the documentation for both my motherboard and the drive, the pins individual connections were also re-arranged. The notation wasn't identical, but it was close enough.

So having no real idea what I was doing I rewired the plug to match the motherboard, using nothing resembling the proper tools. And it works!!!!

I was really expecting to end up with a DVD/CD drive, a number of useless card ports and an invalid warranty.
