On with the rant.
Gaming last night was another ... well, not a disaster, but definitely not constructive. Huge apologies to Doth who was once again sitting around bored for most of the session as I played the "jump from PC off by themself to PC off by themself to PC who has been left by themself" game. The other players seemed happy enough amusing themselves between times - which is a definte issue in itself, not leading to PCs attempting to get themselves involved. This group is just not gelling. This group is not information sharing. This group is not bouncing ideas off each other, in or out of character. This group is not even settling on a common focus. And I've promised to put away the goddamn rails!
I should have been expecting everyone to go in a different direction I suppose, it's what usually happens. Two of the PCs were following the same goal at least. I did expect at least pairings. They barely spoke to each other, except when I practically forced it.
Our fourth player rejoins the group next week. I'll see how it goes, but I think at the end of next session I'll have to issue an ultimatum. Pull together, or I'll retire the campaign.
It's a pity. I'm not burnt out with the world or anything, but I'm so tired of going home exausted after each session, feeling as if I've had to fight to make anything happen. I enjoy the socialising, but it's not worth it.
