Still some settings to tweak out but windows is back and so are most of the apps I use on a regular basis. One of the best things to come out of the development of large capacity flash drives, IMO, is the proliferation of portable applications, which I have been giving preferential status on my hard drive for some time. It really pays off at times like these.

The computer does seem to be running a bit faster, although lagging in places, and the number of processes in task manager has halved. I should do this more often - next time I'll do a better back up of my local mail settings. Everything is still there - more or less. There are just some sorting issues....

I've lost a bunch of bookmarks from FireFox :( I thought I'd lost all my bookmarks from Opera (most of which don't get used anyway) but it turned out Windows Firewall was blocking the synchronisation process. Redundantly since I'd already installed a better firewall which actually tells me what it is doing. Along with it a virus checker which I hope will be less resource-hungry than AVG.

Still need to add to firefox - non-us-english language pack, foxmarks.

Still need to reinstall - Foxit Reader, Picasa, what else?

Oh yeah, change wallpapers. Not awake enough to make a good choice right now.
