So, Buckets of Dice weekend. I preface this post with having had approx 5 1/2 hours broken sleep for each of the last 5 nights. Only the late nights were due to BoD, the broken part was due to (false) alarms at AH.

The timetable this year placed the LARP Sunday night but there was a pre-event drinkies on Friday night. I attended to see who was in town and also because I was the only person available to answer AH alarms until midnight and I needed to be awake (which was a struggle because the week was also very loooong). There were maybe a dozen people in for Dunedin and Wellington this year, 3 of which billeted in my lounge.

Naturally there were no alarms until 2:30am (by which time I'd been asleep for a couple of hours), and that was a false alarm.

Arrived at the venue shortly after doors opened on Saturday. Had a request for my game for Saturday afternoon by a player who couldn't make it to the scheduled slot on Sunday - and as there had been a game cancellation was able to kill two birds with one stone by offering mine to take it's place. Board gamed for the rest of the morning - did not bother trying to keep track of what games I played over the weekend, there were a lot.

Running To Slay A Dragon in the afternoon - not my best performance as a DM I have to say. Still people seemed to be OK with it being a low-excitement game. The player mix was 3 from Dunedin, 3 from Wellington, (including one who arrived too late to get in any other games and for some reason felt he could just join into mine - luckily this scenario comes with spare characters and was able to handle that) and aforementioned one from Christchurch who had actually been hoping to meet more Christchurch gamers.

Anyway, the dragon won this round although it was close.

Saturday evening was the Grand Strategy as usual. I popped in occasionally to take photos but otherwise boardgamed and struggled to stay awake until the end of the night. Droppee S whre he needed to go, got home, went to be, false alarm at AH at 3:30am. Another at 5:10am but fortunately while I was still struggling to get out of bed (should have been out the door) M called to say he was close by and could handle it himself. Still left me awake.

Was at BoD in time to run TSaD in the morning slot - waited a bit until there were actually 5 players who hadn't been in it the previous afternoon. Was much more on my game this session and had great players to boot - the dragon was defeated but only just after a skin-of-the-PCs-teeth battle, at the cost of one PC and with at one stage the wizard being the only party member still conscious.

Board gamed the afternoon away. Bought some stuff at the auction - although only got one of the items I really had my eye on. Also picked up the old copy of GamMarauders for old times sake. Many of the items which were auctioned off I recognised as having been donated or otherwise acquired during the years I was on committee.

Took photos at the beginning of the LARP, played a board game, took photos for the rest of the LARP. Probably should have just done photos, I think I missed a lot of opportunities. It was a very intense game. Processing photos from the weekend is something on my very very full list of things to do this week (I will have to get many things done which would usually happen over the weekend, cram five days work into four and when did I last have a day off off again? Starting to feel pretty worn down).

Dropped two people where they needed to be, chatted to billets, got to be about 1, AH (false) alarm at 2:30am. Again M kindly handled it himself, just checking in with me on the phone.

"Slept in" until a bit after 9. Would have liked to to be longer but was struck by the blues and decided I was better to get out and go be around people anyway. And I had J's games in the car which needed to be returned to him. Farewelled guests who were still abed before I left - the excitement of the weekend and copious ingestion of coffee meaning they also had little sleep the previous nights.

Played Pandemic and 3 rapid games of Race for the Galaxy (this I can remember) before having to be over at AH to show a couple around. Not sure I made the right choice accepting their request for a tour at that time over a few more hours at BOD, but anyway. Afterwards I took time to devise and construct up an easily removable but hopefully critterproof barrier (not sure about windproof unfortunately but we shall see - anyway I hope we will have that doorframe and door replaced) soon over the entry to the area sending all the false alarms. Maybe tonight I will get an uninterrupted sleep (Mondays are usually pretty quiet anyway).

(Actually alarms were fewer than usual over the week and only one wasn't false - in that there were tracks but no open doors, one of the things I did last Sunday was put up a large number of signs so hopefully that has had the desired effect.)

Could have gone back to BoD but opted to come home and do all-the-dishes which had accumulated. Intend to spend a few hours after dinner at the couch fort thing happening at New Asgard - just need to stay awake that long....
