F* that was a good party
I'm back, in one piece although it was a bit touch and go. I really do need >5 hours sleep before driving Dndn to Chch.
Photos should hopefully be processed & online tomorrow. I left a cd with
cthulhu_dream for locals who want to get their hands on the whole set.
You don't need to read the rest unless you really want a blow by blow of the trip :)
Picked up a couple of German hitch hikers on the way out of Chch and dropped them at the Tarras turn off to Wanaka. There was low cloud/fog all the way from Burke's Pass to the other side of Lindis Pass so the scenery wasn't very inspiring.
Visited family for about an hour - it's a nice place in a new development. Noticed on the way past that Cromwell has a Cidery. Determined that the reason my niece's computer won't run some games is that the video card isn't good enough. Didn't have the parts to resolve that with me, and I suspect may have ditched them all in the last purge.
Lead-footed it towards Dunedin - at least where it was safe to do so. Hope there weren't too many speed cameras between Alexandra and the twisty bits. Despite driving into a full moon, the twisty bits were blacker than the devil's hairy arse - not helpful when you are trying to navigate an unknown road in a hurry.
Managed to get checked into hotel by 7pm - by which time everyone else had gathered for dinner. A brisk walk later (good for me after the extended days driving I'm sure) I caught up with
lenfant_de_jeu,
cthulhu_dream and sundry others over some tasty japanese (cuisine).
Back to the motel about 9, which meant exercises and earlier to be than I might have liked. Sans cat, had a solid night's sleep which would stand me in good stead the next day.
Rolled up to the Commerce building at 10am and was slightly surprised to find a couple of OURS people already there :-/ After a certain amount of waiting there was critical mass for a game. I enjoyed it mostly for the company - it suffered a little from a lack of impetus, although the setting and premise were intriguing.
Recieved a surprise belated birthday present from
salahdra :D (photo later) Now I just have to figure out where to put it, as I have nowhere it can properly perform it's intended function :-/
Tried to find parts for a costume - having had an idea on Thursday and no time to acquire the necessary props. Failed, but will refine the concept for the next one.
Notable points:
-
micheinnz's excellent playlist, which was mercifully not as lethal as it could have been.
- ah hell, most of the rest will show up in the photos :D Some peple were very enthusiastically being deviant, or at least depraved, and there was no shortage of willing accomplices.
The venue initally seemed small, but proved ideal to accomodate and sustain critical mass with the number of attendees. I danced a lot. I took many photos. I handed out a number of cards, which universally seemed to be considered a good idea. I made it back to my motel room about 3am and to sleep about 3:30.
I did not wind up attached to anyone* at any point in the evening, which might have been the only thing that could have made the event better for me. Eye candy sufficed.
*shorthand for attractive young woman, of course.
Stumbled out of bed about 9:30, showered, packed, checked out and set off to hunt breakfast. this wasa pretty miserable affair as Capers was full and my backup bakery seems to have closed. Eventually tried a Velvet Burger bagel, which was less than inspiring.
salahdra came to my rescue with a tasty lunch of roast vegetables while we went through the photos from the party and I burnt a CD.
Delivered CD, acquired other people's photos and return passenger
aleph_naught and headed north. Had great difficulty keeping my eyes open most of the trip until past Ashburton, when I started to wake up. (Why this whole entry is being posted tonight instead of a much shorter one). Ran into fog abruptly at Rolleston.
There are apparently two guests logged into my digsby widgets, who have been for between 8 and 10 hours. I can't tell which widget (two of my sundry profiles have them) which the digsby developers will hopefully remedy at some point. Anyway, presumably this means that someone(s) have left one of my profiles open for some reason, or digsby is a bot-trap under certain conditions.

You know it's good when a new song starts and the playlist builder is called an "evil wossname" by people with big grins on their faces!
