Concerned about the new Earthquake accommodation supplement
Will it miss some of the people who need it most?
The Herald (and every other report I've seen) says
Does this mean that if you didn't have an accommodation allowance on your insurance, or didn't have insurance (in which case you're not covered by EQC and already screwed once) that you can't get the new supplement either?
Sounds a lot like the same way Working for Families misses the kids at the very bottom of the heap to me.
Other possibilities that come to mind
- What if you can't face going back and are planning to sell once everything is repaired? You don't qualify but you do need somewhere to live until you have that equity back. Do you lie?
- Will the government come after you for their money back if you after you go back you decide you can't face living there any more and sell up within some short period of time, on the grounds that you never planned to go back and fall in the previous category?

They must be unable to live in their home while it is being repaired and intend to return once that work is complete.
