This is what can happen when you throw pumpkin innards into your compost trench. Who wants one?

Some people do already have dibs, but I'm sure there will be spare. (If there aren't I reserve the right to pick recipients based on any criteria I wish :p )

This is a little side project I have been working on over the past few weeks, as something different for my hands/brain to do.

Had my annual x-ray on Thursday (under the lj-cut for the bone geeks), report today. I'm about as fixed as they can make me, which is good because even if I hadn't been planning to stop going the pre-report presentation I sat through today may have been the most patronising yet and may have tipped the balance on general principles.

Not feeling guilty about not doing my exercises regularly is already a weight off my mind.

01. Anyone who wants to can post this meme and their current wallpaper at their LiveJournal.
02. Explain in five sentences why you're using that wallpaper!
03. Don't change your wallpaper before doing this! The point is to see what you had on!

Rather than taking a screenshot I've uploaded a small version of the image I'm using.

This is a recent aerial photo looking over the hills where I grew up. You can't see the homestead for trees but the woolshed is fairly visible. My father and grandfather farmed this land and back upriver, my great or great-great grandfather was farm manager on the other side of the river so it's thoroughly in my blood even if I didn't quite get the farming gene.

From up here it almost looks like nothing has changed - the trees are a bit taller is all - but I've been back once some years ago and it's true what they say about not being able to go home.

It's only a dark smudge in this image but in the middle of the top left quadrant is the hill where they built Edoras for the LOTR movies.

Today was one of those days where one runs into people in the oddest places (most notable - my old line manager from Canesis in the USCA carpark) while having trouble matching schedules with the people you are trying to catch up with.

My latest chiropractic report was this morning (theoretically). my neck continues to improve but my lower spine has swung even further out of alignment than it was originally (which certainly explains why the sciatica symptoms have reappeared). That could be something I'm doing or it could just be what my spine needs to do to "unwind" - in which case it will correct itself eventually. On the positive side despite the alignment issue the nerves don't appear to be pinched as much as they were.

They also gave me a free self help book and because I looked so depressed (bored with waiting, and generally flat) they've booked me a free 15 minutes with the 'Neuro Linguistic Programming' coach who works in the same building. In truth I accepted only because I get a perverse pleasure out of wasting these peoples time, especially when someone has pressured me to make the appointment.

Oh, I'm sure she -meant- well. I should be grateful that someone cares.

larger versions )

Darker numbers might go with a lighter colour text. White text obviously doesn't work with the lighting.

I spent a long time trying to find a way to make the faces display text via a texture or something, but it just doesn't work. In the end I went with very carefully positioned text objects, which I then had to convert to meshes to allow transparent colouring (ddeming the quickest way to get a darker or lighter version of the background colour to be setting the colour of the number to pure black or white then playing with the alpha).

I have learnt a whole lot about doing things in Blender, but there are a few things which still seem hit or miss - like changing the colour of a 3D text object.

Just because I'm still working on this logo doesn't mean I've lost my misgivings about Gameathon - the logo is a project in itself.

Rudimentary, but getting there.

Need to come up with a colour scheme and font that will go well with the template I used for the site.

Should I add faint numbers to the sides of the die?

As selected by [livejournal.com profile] xenogram. Comment to propogate meme or if you'd like me to talk about one of my other icons.

My userpics represent the topics, contexts or moods of my posts.

userpic My cat, Racky. Used for posts talking mostly about him. From a photo I gave my Grandma one Xmas after she'd moved and he'd stayed here, and is now on top of my bookcase.

userpic Originally used to flag meme posts (flying frivilously free) I also use it occasionally for joyful, uplifting posts or KAOS Expeditionary Army related posts.
I'd rather have the kea than the kiwi as our national bird, to be honest.

userpic This is one of my miseryguts icons, used when I'm feeling particularly gloomy or angstful. Instantly recognisable to most of my friends as being from the Sisters of Mercy. I cropped the icon out of a favorite computer wallpaper :)

userpic Currently my default LJ icon, taking over from the blue knight as that developed a more 'professional' connotation for me. I've had it just as long (clipart preloaded on my first computer), and I regard it as a friendly, inquisitive sort of picture.

userpic I've used this image tiled as a wallpaper in the past. It's a step up from the SoM icon on the miseryguts scale, representing 'a little depressed/unhappy over here' rather than straight-up angst or bitching.

userpic This is my "Evil DM" icon, usually associated with posts about games I'm running/planning or ideas I'm throwing out there from a DM perspective. I actually did an LJ poll to finalise the choice.

I may occasionally use it for other posts involving conspiracy or manipulation.

Experimenting with this Digsby IM/email/friendfeed collater [livejournal.com profile] aigantighe recommended. I now function with 2 more IM accounts open, but two fewer browsers and two fewer IM apps, which has to be good for the memory footprint. (And you can chat with me from my Facebook or LJ profile, in theory).

Must have been hungry tonight - dinner was crunchier than usual, in the not-boiled-to-death way. It also had more variety than usual - for the record roast chicken, more-baked-than-roasted parsnip, somewhat boiled potato, carrot and yam.

~~~
Had another x-ray last Thursday, got the results yesterday. Making progress, but I now have a second traction device - neck only - to alternate time on [sigh]. It is at least more comfortable than the other.
It's a long weekend. I am in fact attempting to take a break. This entails
- not doing my typical half-day-on-a-public-holiday
- rather than making out a chores list just getting to stuff as I feel like it over the next few days. This is likely to include some gardening, the actual chores, finding new hi-res backgrounds for my desktop, tidying the office, playing some compter games, some gaming prep, updating some of my webpages....
- the possibilities lack socialising :( Both my weekend games are off this weekend, and there doesn't seem to be anything relevant on the partylist.I don't want to expend the brainstuffs to provide entertainment for myself at the moment, let alone trying to sort out other people to socialise with.
- I slept in, or more accurately lay in bed for about an hour and a half, and it wasn't good for me.
And because it made me smile...
Stayed home from work this morning to take delivery of my new bed....
the old )
I found a "made:" tag on the bottom of the old bed - it was only 6 months younger than I am. Sort of makes one wonder if one isn't past ones own use by date ... but that way lies madness and angst. Better to focus on
the new )
It's slightly bigger than I'd measured - even with the smaller desk there's really not room to sit at the computer.
Also: free to a good home: one double-bed headboard (which the truckie was in such a hurry he didn't take away with the mattress and base) and two brand new, cheap, nasty, and entirely too plump polyester pillows (which the salesman gave me when I bought the thing).
