Authors note: I am several sessions behind at this point. ...

Returning upstairs with Trido in tow and carrying the body of the young girl the party found that Eric had let himself into the warehouse using a similar key to the one they possess. He brought two things

- A flamboyant giant adventurer named Sar-Daggat, possessed of a huge bow and a swordstaff even more impressive than Markos'.

- news of another complication - due to a mistranslation the harrids were not the Derhii delicacy we had thought. They released the creatures which are now draining sections of the forest of magic and advancing back towards the town.

After Eric left the haggid which Markos had earlier spoken to made itself known from among the cages. "You cant win you know" it squawked. Apparently the haggids plan to conquer the town and enslave the populace, but it was here with an offer - open the town and evacuate leaving all magic behind and they would forgo the enslaving.

It taunted Aiu with her lack of prowess with the bow and she took a shot at it - missing. Sar-Daggat then unlimbered his bow, driving an arrow straight through the creature and into the brick wall beyond.
"But it was only meant to be a warning shot!"
- natural 20 on the player's first roll of the game, and another natural 20 to confirm the crit.

The haggid menace was still some days away so was simply added to the list, just before "next full moon".

The more pressing matter was the young girl, who could not have been missing for long. The party took her to the chancellors office where Markos first had to carefully explain the numerical superiority of a fortified town with between one and two thousand combat-able inhabitants over a group of 50 similar attackers.

The chancellor was upset by the corpse, but perhaps not for the expected reasons. He advised the party just to get rid of the body quietly and not mention it to anyone. On learning that the old well (a historical feature) connects to the warehouse basement he let slip "if I'd known that I would have made use of it more often." ... upon being pressed on what exactly he meant by that he flew into a (mock) rage, summoned the guards and had us ejected from the building. This attracted a bit of a crowd which Aiu appealed to for knowledge of the girl's family. No-one stepped forward but one woman with a child of similar age caught the attention of the two giants and led them down an alleyway before before stopping to talk. She offered only that the child used to work at the bakery her husband runs (an illegitimate child of his) and offers the same advice as the chancellor - get rid of the body and say no more of it.

Meanwhile Zedzid'r visited a herbalist to arrange a supply of the bamboo-like plant the Derhii were actually interested in (grows along the coast).

[Somewhere in here we must have visited the werewolves and persuaded Hughes to try on one of the sets of manacles which did indeed force him back into human form from being stuck in hybrid form; because he and Juno were sighted at the street party later on. He was incredibly, vigorously excited about the fact that Zenon had brewed a potion which might act as a proper "medicine".]

Later in the day Aiu visited a maker of musical instruments in the marketplace and despite no formal training managed a passable performance on a [?] which turned into a full on street party.

Sar spotted the baker's wife slowly drowning her sorrows and made another approach, sympathetically listening to her woes and pouring more wine into her until she was prepared for a little infidelity of her own.

Markos noted the chancellor's secretary and Jake circulating with some of the less salubrious members of the crowd and made some enquiries of his own, discovering that the secretary was the real power in the town (no surprises there) and that people who went against him tended to come to a messy end. Enquiries were cut short and the street-party disturbed when Trido (who was supposed to be locked in a cage) showed up, causing Markos to race back to the warehouse with Zenon and Zedzid'r. (Sar spotted the commotion from the baker's window and arrived shortly after, and Aiu shortly after again).

The cellar hatch was open and the body of the girl and both shadow mastiffs were gone. A Greenspy left by Zediz'r revealed a large man and a small man enter the warehouse, the large man cast a spell on the body after which it got up and followed him into the cellar. Quickly then the party followed, Zediz'r tracking the group to the top of the ledge above the labyrinth. Here there was blood about, and at the bottom of the ladder a torn-off sprite leg. Lights and voices could be heard in the storage shed across the bridge.

Markos and Sar were able to sneak up to the door and discovered the secretary, the baker, a badly-injured Jake and the zombie girl inside. The secretary and baker were arguing - apparently the zombie spontaneously attacking Jake had not been part of the plan for disposing of the body. It transpires she "had to be killed" because she and Jake had been spending too much time together and she had learned too much about the secretary and the chancellor's willing involvement in Anthony's schemes and in other dirty dealings.

Further revelations were prevented by Jake spotting the movement at the door and warning his father. Markos managed to fill the shed with an Eldritch Web before the shadow mastiffs bounded out from under the bridge and he, Sar and Aiu all fled from their fear-inducing howls.
